Spirulina Vegan Protein Balls

Anyone else completely obsessed with all the new nutritious super foods available in Aldi? Every time I go in there it get’s better! A few weeks ago I found Spirulina, which is an amazing source of protein, especially for vegans as it makes a great alternative to whey protein powder.

From its staggeringly high protein content to the wealth of micronutrients it contains, spirulina is one of the best superfoods out there.

It’s 65% protein. That’s right, 65%. This is extremely high for a plant, and one of the reasons it is becoming more and more popular. It also contains sources of all 8 essential amino acids. It’s an easy, healthy way to boost your protein intake, so I’ve made these delicious protein balls. Hope you like them.

stacey hogan - spirulina protein balls

Ingredients (makes 25):

300g pitted dates
135g raisins
85g almonds
20g spirulina

Method:

  1. Add all the ingredients to a food processor and blitz until combined (I like to leave mine with a little bit of crunch still, but if you prefer them to be smoother, just blitz a little longer.)
  2. Roll into balls, then serve.
